CSPS Social Policy seminar on social protection for informal workers
CSPS held a seminar, on 28 October, on Increasing Access to Social Security and Social Insurance for Workers in the Informal Sector in Ghana. Dr. Rita Owusu-Amankwah explained that the informal sector employs the majority of people in the world, most of whom are unprotected from economic shocks to their livelihoods. Because of this, International Labour Organization (ILO) Recommendation No. 204 calls for member states to progressively extend social security, maternity protection, and decent work conditions for all informal workers .
Dr. Owusu-Amankwah, a social protection expert with over 17 years of experience, said one of the best ways to protect informal sector workers and their dependents is by implementing the labour law, and monitoring occupational safety and health.
