Elizabeth Korkor Okletey
Background: After completing my university degree, I had the opportunity to work with an NGO, an area I was not well exposed to. My academic and career focus was geared towards working in a media organisation. However, when the opportunity arose, I was eager to embrace the chance to learn and expand my knowledge in this new field. I started out as a social media manager, then transitioned into a child rights and responsibility facilitator, and eventually became the head of training and capacity building. Throughout my journey, I recognised the need to continuously build my capacity to better understand my role and effectively carry out my responsibilities.
Life @ CSPS: I vividly remember when I received my admission letter by the grace of God, I realised that out of the many who applied for the program, only five were accepted. I was the only woman among four gentlemen, which made the experience challenging in its own way. Being the only lady came with high expectations, especially during lectures. There were days that I didn't feel like the men protected their only woman because some classes, like the Social Policy class, will leave you at the edge of your seat, feeling invigorated and challenged, with each class ending on a thrilling note that leaves a lasting impression. Despite the challenges, both bitter and sweet, the experiences were unforgettable, and I am truly grateful for them. By the grace of God, we persevered and succeeded.
Networks: Through my academic program, I established a healthy network of peers, mentors, and industry professionals that has provided invaluable support, guidance, and opportunities for future collaboration and growth.
Goals: Enrolling in this program has provided me with a deeper understanding of the areas I’ve been exposed to, as well as a clearer insight into the industry and its operations. I now better understand why and how certain interventions and views I have encountered were advocated in this space. The program has equipped me with advanced knowledge, skills, and valuable networking opportunities that have significantly shaped my career path. I am confident that what I have gained will enable me to approach my responsibilities with a stronger sense of understanding and purpose.
